Chengdu Shùdé High School (Simplified Chinese: 成都市树德中学, Traditional Chinese: 成都樹徳中學, pinyin: Chéngdu Shùdé Zhongxúe)is a top high school in Chengdu, China. In Chinese, ''Shùdé'' literally means ''establishing morality''. ==History== In 1929, Shùdé High School was founded by General Sun Zhen (孙震) as a private school. The teaching building and students' dormitory building were finished by 1931. The motto of the school is given by "loyalty, bravery and diligence" (忠,勇,勤). The goal of its education is "building virtue and building character" (树德树人). In 1932, the first batch of 50 boys and 50 girls were admitted into Boys' School and Girls' School, respectively. In 1944, a national newspaper ranked Shùdé High School one of the best 4 private schools in China. In 1945, Li Zongren, then vice president of Republic of China visited Shùdé High School. In 1950, after the communist revolution, the administration of Shùdé High School was taken over by the municipal government and renamed to be No. 9 High School of Chengdu. In the 1960s, No. 9 High School of Chengdu serves as the middle school for children of the cadres of the Communist Party of China in Chengdu and Sichuan Province. In 1980, Shùdé High School was honored the Beacon high school of Sichuan Province. In 1989, Shùdé High School celebrated its 60th anniversary in 1989, and changed its name back to the original form of Shùdé High School.
